Now hiring, Kigali

Marketing & Social Media Manager.

One person to run our voice everywhere it lives, and to turn XP Studio into something people talk about. This leans more on writing and building than on design, and it asks for someone who can hold one standard across seven channels.

This is a full time position with two halves. One is the brand. The other is the counter: you share the rota with the Operations Manager so the studio can open seven days a week without either of you working them all.

Term
12 months, renewable
Probation
3 months
Commitment
Full time, on site
Location
Nyarugenge, Kigali

The voice you would be holding

XP Services runs XP Studio in Kabuguru II, Rwezamenyo. Printing, foil finishing, 3D printing, government services through Irembo and RRA, and an XR lab where people try artificial intelligence and immersive learning for the first time.

The audience is parents who are investing in their children's education, and adults who want to understand the tools everyone is suddenly talking about. They are busy, careful with their money, and they respond to being informed rather than sold to.

So the content is calm, considered and useful. No engagement bait, no skits, no manufactured drama, no trend chasing for its own sake. A useful test: would this still read well aloud in a quiet room.

Each channel has a job

You will not be posting the same thing seven times. Each channel below carries a different job and a different audience. This is where we are starting, and shaping it as you learn what actually works here is part of the role.

Instagram
The reception area. Clean, composed, the first impression for anyone checking whether we are real.
TikTok
The lab in action. A 3D print finishing, a foil pass, a first session in a headset. Show, do not sell.
Substack
The core. In depth writing on technology, learning and work in Kigali. This is where trust is actually built.
YouTube
Longer explainers and walkthroughs that answer the questions people bring to the counter.
Facebook
Local reach and the practical announcements: hours, services, prices, programs.
X
Short, sharp notes to a technical and professional audience, and links back to the Substack.
Reddit
Niche communities where a genuinely useful answer earns more than an advertisement ever would.

What you get

  • A written, notarized contract. Fixed term of twelve months, renewable, drafted under Law No. 66/2018 governing labour in Rwanda.
  • A three month probation, then confirmation. Reviewed against the standards on this page, with either side free to end the contract on seven days written notice during that period.
  • Editorial ownership. You will not be handed captions to publish. You will decide what we say, inside the standard above.
  • Access to the equipment. XR headsets, 3D printing and foil finishing are your raw material, not props you have to request.
  • A byline. The Substack carries your name on the work you write.

The role

Six things this job is.

These mirror the duties written into the contract, so you can read the whole job before you decide whether it is yours.

Duty one

Own the calendar

Plan a month ahead across all seven channels. Publish on schedule. Keep a single content calendar the Managing Director can open at any time and understand.

Duty two

Write the Substack

One substantial piece per week on technology, learning, small business or work in Kigali. Researched, edited, and worth someone's Sunday morning.

Duty three

Shoot and edit

Capture the lab as it actually runs. Vertical video for TikTok and Instagram, longer cuts for YouTube. Phone footage is fine. Careless footage is not.

Duty four

Answer people

Comments, direct messages and Reddit threads within one working day. Every reply is the brand, including the ones nobody else sees.

Duty five

Bring people through the door

Work with the Operations Manager on promotions, the loyalty card, program launches and quiet weekday slots that need filling.

Duty six

Report what worked

A monthly one page summary: what was published, what reached people, what converted into a visit, and what you are changing next month.

The other half of the job

The studio opens seven days a week. The Operations Manager cannot work all of them, so you share the rota. On your counter days you open, serve customers, handle printing and document jobs, run the till and reconcile it at close, exactly as the Operations Manager does.

The counter time is what will make the content good. You will know what people actually walk in asking for, which explanations land, and which prices make someone hesitate. That is the raw material for everything you publish.

You will be trained on the counter by the Operations Manager during your first weeks, and the rota is agreed in advance, not changed on the day.

How performance is measured

Reviewed monthly, formally at six months.

Consistency. Did the calendar hold. Steady publishing across months does more for us than one exceptional week.

Substack subscribers and read rate. Depth of attention, not raw follower counts.

Visits we can trace. Promotions redeemed, sessions booked, program sign ups that started with something you published.

Is this you?

Candidate

Who we are looking for.

Writing carries more weight here than follower counts. One thoughtful newsletter tells us more than a large audience built on someone else's trend.

  • You can write in EnglishClean, unpadded prose. This is the single most important requirement.
  • You have run at least one channel properlyPersonal or professional. Please include the link so we can see the work itself.
  • Phone videography and editingShoot, cut, caption, publish, without waiting for a production crew.
  • Kinyarwanda and EnglishBoth, comfortably. Some content ships bilingual.
  • Full time availabilityIncluding weekend shifts on the shared rota. Time at the studio is part of the job, both for filming and for covering the counter.
  • You already publish somethingA newsletter, a blog, a channel, a column. Anything with your name on it and a record of showing up.
  • Kinyarwanda copywritingWriting it well, not just speaking it.
  • Design basicsCanva, Figma or Adobe, enough to keep things on brand without a designer.
  • Genuine interest in AI and XRYou would use the headsets on your own time.
  • YouTube long formStructuring and editing something past ten minutes.
  • Basic analyticsReading platform insights and drawing an honest conclusion from them.
  • A driving licenceUseful for school gate visits, wedding trade calls and location shoots. Not required, and its absence counts against nobody.
  • You publish on the day you said you wouldConsistency beats brilliance here.
  • You check facts before postingEspecially prices, government fees and program dates.
  • You ask permission before filming anyoneChildren are never filmed without a parent's written consent.
  • You choose the honest winNo rage bait, no invented giveaways, no borrowed drama, even on the days they would work.
  • You write for a reader, not an algorithmIf a piece would not be useful to someone, we would rather hold it.
  • You work well with an editorEverything published here gets a second read, including work that comes from the Managing Director.

Ready to put your name forward?

Apply

Seven things to have ready.

Applications go through one short form. It takes about fifteen minutes once you have the seven items below, and you can upload files and paste links directly inside it.

  1. Your CV

PDF preferred. Two pages at most.

  2. Three work samples with links

Accounts you ran, pieces you wrote, videos you cut. A short note on what was yours and what was the team's is helpful.

  3. A 300 word Substack pitch

Written for our audience: parents in Kigali deciding whether technology is worth their money and their child's time. Pitch the piece and write the opening paragraph.

  4. One vertical video, 30 seconds, shot and edited by you

Any subject. Upload it in the form or paste a link. We are looking at framing, pacing and captions, not production budget.

  5. A copy of your National ID and a criminal record certificate

National ID front side, and a criminal record certificate issued through Irembo dated within the last three months. Both are uploaded in the form and used only for verification and the employment contract. We can process the certificate application for you here at no service charge.

  6. Two professional references

Former supervisors or colleagues, with names, positions and working phone numbers. Friends and family members cannot be used. We call only shortlisted candidates, and we ask you first.

  7. The sales figure you believe you could reach, and your earliest start date

The pay terms are set out in full at the start of the application form, so read them before you begin. They are fixed, and there is no salary figure to negotiate.

Submit your application

The form opens in a new tab. If it will not load, write to info@xp.services and we will send it another way.

XP Services Ltd hires on merit. We welcome applications regardless of sex, origin, marital status, disability or background, and we do not charge any fee at any stage of recruitment. If anyone asks you for money in connection with this position, it is not us. Work samples submitted through the form are used only for recruitment and are not published or reused.
